The History of Fowey Harbour: A Fair and Commodious Haven
Redruth: Tor Mark Press, forthcoming 2010

In the mediaeval period, Fowey was the most important port in Cornwall. Today it is still an important port for the export of china clay and a place for yachting, walking and holidays of various kinds. This book shows how the harbour developed over the centuries, telling the tale of the men and women who shaped the history and the ships that sailed from Fowey across the oceans.

Maritime History of Cornwall
Co-editor and contributor with Professor P Payton and Dr A Kennerley, University of Exeter Press, forthcoming 2010.

The Maritime History of Cornwall is an exciting new project, which fills a significant gap in Cornwall’s history. Although Cornwall is described by Professor Marianne Kowaleski as the most maritime of counties, there is no comprehensive view of this important industry and its relationship to the county.

The book explains this rich, complex maritime inheritance and will be a significant addition to the literature of international maritime history and a major contribution to Cornish Studies. It brings together an international team of more than 20 distinguished historians and includes some of maritime history’s leading scholars. It says much for the project that these contributors have all readily agreed to be involved. Each contributor brings a particular specialism to the team, ensuring comprehensive and authoritative treatment of the many social, cultural, economic, political, military, environmental and other dimensions of Cornwall’s maritime history.
